Just thoughts

I’ve always envied people who could write their thoughts well. Their play on words. Whenever I read someone else’s work, it makes me think “I should read more.” Although, reading will never be enough. My limited view of the world will limit the way and what I write. But my imagination is as vast as the ocean. So vast no one will understand. Since I won’t be able to see what’s beyond the screen, I imagine what the world could be. The world has so much to offer I can’t let it pass by.

Booze and stories

Seldom do I find people who have the same interests as we (Michael and I) do in this place. It's comforting and at the same time frustrating. We sometimes get left behind simply because we don't hear news about the things we're interested in often.

Friday night we had friends come over to our place for booze and stories. Both flowed smoothly. Fiestas aren't just about the food or the lechon (which is still food, but I had to emphasize, though). It's about the gathering that happens whether coincidental or planned. That's the part I love. It doesn't happen every day. I don't get to mingle with friends of the same wavelength very often. It's a good feeling when you feel like you belong.

I just learned that Michael's friend is interested in most things as I am. So a promise of exchange of books. It was fun. I'm hoping that we all get the chance to do this again very soon.

Well, I'll try to keep the festive mood till the new year. It'll be a three week feat for me.

Sidelines

Here's a good sideline. Randomly accepting computer jobs from friends and co-workers. Just saving for the coming season. Why haven't I thought of this earlier?

C.H.A.N.G.E.

After watching a part (it was shown on a cable channel and I didn't get to see the beginning) of the "This is It" docu-movie of Michael Jackson's supposed farewell tour, I tried looking back to the days when I watched the MTV of "They Don't Really Care About Us" and how I'd get teary eyed when watching the "Earth Song" video (the song still gets to me whenever I hear it. Hehehe). As early as grade school, I was acquainted with MJ's music. Then about the song "Man in the Mirror"; very understandable. No need for further explanations.

Chris Daughtry sang "What About Now?" and I respond the way I did with "Earth Song". I don't know why, but these kind of songs just get to me. Can I say that I'm a Peace-Loving-Self-Proclaimed-Environmentalist? I know Jaki would react to the peace-loving part. Sssshhhh!!! Just hear me out.

Two weeks ago the SB were transferring to their new office. While doing that, they discovered lots and lots of foldered (if there is such a word) documents from a decade or two ago. These were put in sacks and were ready to be thrown away by the janitor. When I saw this, it was heartbreaking to learn that it was easy for Helen to say that she was going to bring the sacks to the garbage truck. I offered to take these sacks to the office. I itched and scratched and sneezed with decades of dust and molds and whatever was in there. I segregated the used papers and folders and fasteners. Viola! Recycling in the office took place. Sheets of papers that had a clean side were binded and made into notepads. Then I found UNUSED and UNMARKED bond papers and folders in the stack. These were saved for later use. I guess that the self-proclaimed-environmentalist part is justified by this anecdote.

Now with the peace-loving part. It's world peace that I mean. Since 2nd grade, I've watched CNN, BBC and other international news channels. I've seen violence from neighboring countries (I was in Saudi Arabia then). Our school was one of the buildings near where US soldiers were housed. This building was bombed and was literally turned to dust, damaging the rest of the buildings around it, including our school. Fortunately, it happened at around 7pm so no got hurt. At my age that time, it felt like a vacation having no classes held for 2 straight weeks while the school was rebuilt. But for our parents, it would have been disturbing to think that their children were studying in that school. Another incident was the bomb threat (same school). The school regularly held different drills and we were accustomed to the ringing of the emergency bell. Four rings would mean a war is coming, five rings would mean fire, and so on. Five rings. We calmly stood up, formed a line and slowly went downstairs to the open court. We noticed a slight change in the drill. The school bus' engine was running and we were asked to take our seats in the bus (we had a small population and we all fit in one bus). Then the principal announced that we were going to be brought home because a caller said there was a bomb in our school. We were also told not to return to school unless advised to do so. Again, a vacation. Turned out the caller was a puck and the school grounds were clear of a bomb. Later on we learned that all schools in the city received the same call and suspended classes for at least a week to search the grounds inch by inch. I remember returning to school discovering that our playground was such a mess. The playground was set on a sandbox and sand was everywhere. Well, I guess that's it.

Here's to WORLD PEACE and ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION!!!
